At a glance

A heater blowing cold needs assessment of heat, airflow and the vehicle heating system. Describe fan operation, warm-up changes and defrost performance. If a temperature warning appears or the windscreen cannot stay clear, stop safely rather than continue with overheating or poor visibility.

  • Separate missing heat from weak or missing airflow.
  • Describe warm-up and defrost behaviour.
  • Report cooling-system warnings with the heating concern.

Car heater has no heat or no airflow?

Tell the shop whether the fan works at different settings, air reaches the selected vents and both sides of the cabin feel the same. A weak fan complaint is different from strong cold airflow. Note the selected temperature and mode without dismantling controls or vents.

Mention warm-up and defrost behaviour

Report whether heat never arrived, faded during a journey or differed between ordinary travel and stops. Include fogging and whether the demisting mode helped. Do not plan a test drive with poor visibility; the observations from your last normal trip are enough for the initial enquiry.

Include cooling-system warnings

On many combustion-engine vehicles, cabin heat and engine coolant are related, while other powertrains may use different arrangements. Mention overheating warnings, leaks or recent coolant work. Follow the manual and never open a hot cooling-system cap to investigate a cold-heater complaint.

  • Keep the exact dashboard message
  • Do not guess coolant type or add sealants

Request the right assessment for your vehicle

Call Father Auto with the year, make, model and powertrain, plus airflow and temperature observations. Ask about assessment scope, its charge and how repair options will be quoted. A cold heater does not by itself establish that a thermostat or heater core needs replacement.

Have these details ready when you call

  • Normal fan strength or weak/no airflow?
  • Heat on one side or neither side?
  • Warm-up, stopping and defrost observations
  • Temperature warnings, leaks or recent coolant work
  • Vehicle details and engine, hybrid or electric powertrain

Common questions

Does cold air prove a failed heater core?

No. Heating arrangements and potential causes differ. Describe temperature, airflow and warnings so assessment comes before a particular parts recommendation.

Can I drive if the heater does not demist the glass?

Do not drive with obscured visibility. Stop safely and arrange assistance or an assessment; a planned service visit does not make poor visibility acceptable.

Should I check coolant immediately?

Never open a hot pressurised system. Follow your vehicle's manual for permitted checks, and treat a temperature warning as a separate prompt concern.
